Dr. Sutker maintains the highest levels of accreditation and pursue ongoing education to stay abreast of the latest trends in the medical field. Dr. Sutker participates in regular continuing medical education and attends local and national conferences to stay abreast of new research and surgical techniques.
Dr. Sutker was born in Plano, Texas and graduated from Plano Senior High School. Dr. Sutker grew up in a medical family as his father is an orthopedic surgeon and his uncle is an infectious disease doctor.
He received his undergraduate degree in Plan 2 Honors from the University of Texas in Austin and his medical degree at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He completed his general surgical internship and residency training at UT-Southwestern. He then received fellowship training in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the University of California-San Francisco.
Dr. Sutker opened his practice, Michael Sutker, M.D., P.A., at Medical City Dallas in 2014. His practice is one of several surgeons that form Surgical Consultants of Dallas, LLC. Dr. Sutker enjoys the collaborative working relationship with his associates. Dr. Sutker is board certified in general surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (FASMBS). Dr. Sutker is a member of several professional organizations including the Dallas County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association, American Medical Association, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), and the Obesity Medicine Association.
More About Dr. Michael Sutker
Dr. Sutker specializes in treating general surgery conditions with minimally invasive techniques, mostly utilizing robotic-assisted laparoscopy. He is the Medical Director of the Robotic Surgery Program at Medical City Dallas. Dr. Sutker also services as the section chief for general surgery at Medical City Dallas. Dr. Sutker has received specialty training in the surgical treatment of obesity, gastro-esophageal reflux disease, esophageal motility disorders, paraesophageal hernias, and inguinal and ventral hernias. He also has an extensive practice in emergency general surgery, managing problems such as appendicitis, cholecystitis, diverticulitis, and small bowel obstructions.
Dr. Sutker is married. He and his wife have two young children. His wife is a registered nurse with a background in Pediatric ICU care. She now specializes in aesthetic nursing with a vast experience in injectables (Botox and dermal fillers). Dr. Sutker is an avid Dallas Mavericks basketball fan and has enjoyed going to games since he was three years old. He enjoys spending his free time with his family.

Dr. Sutker sees scheduled new and follow-up patients Monday afternoons in McKinney and Wednesday mornings and afternoons in Dallas. Urgent visits can be scheduled with Dr. Sutker or one of his associates on any day.
Due to the unscheduled nature of emergencies imposed upon the physicians, occasional delays do occur. We hope that you will understand that these delays are unavoidable.
If you are unable to keep your appointment, please cancel as far in advance as possible. We always have patients on standby that would be grateful for your thoughtfulness. You may be charged a no-show fee of $30.00 if we do not receive notification within 24 hours of your appointment. If you are more than 20 minutes late for your scheduled appointment, we may have to reschedule.
The practice does not validate parking at Medical City Dallas.
We would appreciate it if you would register with our Patient Portal and complete the Patient History paperwork. Please be sure to bring a list of all your medications. Please bring only pertinent medical records such as operative reports, radiology reports, pathology reports, and lab results.

New Patient Registration
New patients making their first visit are requested to arrive 30 minutes before their scheduled appointment for the purpose of registration. Please go to the New Patients page to download our new patient paperwork. There will be some paperwork that is additional to the Patient Portal. Registration will be faster if you can complete your paperwork prior to your visit.
Please be sure to bring your insurance card and a valid form of picture ID with you to your appointment. This will help us file for insurance payment on your behalf.
Many patients are sent to us by referral from their family physician or specialists. If you are referred by another doctor, please make this fact known so that we may share our findings with your personal physician.
If you require hospitalization, your surgeon will make arrangements for your admission. Dr. Sutker has admitting privileges at Medical City Dallas Hospital and Medical City McKinney Hospital. Any business matters regarding the payment of the hospital account are customarily discussed with the Hospital Admitting Office at the time of admission. The hospital and Michael Sutker, MD, PA are separate business organizations, and bills for each will be submitted separately. The bill from Dr. Sutker will include medical care administered by your surgeon during your hospital stay.
Payment for Services
Patients are requested to pay for services at the time rendered. In the event that payment cannot be made, special and specific arrangements may be made by calling or speaking to our Patient Accounts department. We will be most understanding and willing to accommodate unusual circumstances.
Our requirements for payment of your account and for maintain your account in good standing are as follows:
- All co-insurance, co-pays, deductibles, and account balances are due prior to Surgery. All charges are due and payable within 10 days of receipt of statement.
- You are directly responsible for any unpaid balance on your account. You will receive a statement each month even though the insurance is pending. The medical information necessary for insurance claim forms is provided as a courtesy to you. SCD cannot accept responsibility for collecting your claim or negotiating a settlement on a disputed claim since we are not a party to your insurance contract.
- After 90 days, if no payments have been received and no extended payments arrangements have been made, collection proceedings may begin.
- It is important that you notify us of any changes of address promptly since undeliverable statements may be turned over to collection agencies immediately.

We accept most traditional insurance plans. Please contact our office to verify acceptance of your plan. Qualifications for insurance coverage may differ due to the uniqueness of each procedure.
If an insurance claim has been filed on your behalf and no payment or rejection notice has been received within 60 days from the date of filing, we encourage you to:
- Contact your insurance company as to the reason for the delay.
- Make regular payments on your account to keep it in good standing. Any overpayment will be refunded in the event that the insurance pays directly to your surgeon.
If you have any questions regarding your account or the filing of your insurance, call and ask for the Practice Manager. We will be happy to assist you.
Return to Work Forms and Disability Paperwork
A return to work form will be provided to you at your request during your office appointment at no charge. If you require disability paperwork to be completed for your job or for insurance, a $50 fee will be assessed.
